£3000 is very little. Unless you have a guaranteed income (pension, or benefits), you should have at least double this amount in savings in case of job loss/unexpected repairs. Especially if you expect to run 2 cars! I would put it in an ISA and then look at adding to it.0

Def go and see your family, I would do that in a heartbeat, I only live 200 miles away from my family and thats too far.
Enjoy your visit and as the money is " extra" just enjoy it, its not a fortune and sometimes you just have to stop being sensible,

As of today 180919. my granddaughter is now my official granddaughter, adoption finally granted0
