thats my thinking - really couldnt be bothered having a few hundred with 50 different building societies for close to no reason.
anyone know the exact thing that happened in 97 when everything changed, or was that just when the banks all changed their t+c's?
There was no one thing that happened....the whole subject just became the fave topic of a media feeding frenzy, especially after a few societies converted and lots of people got lots of free money. The societies were inundated with people opening accounts with £100 and that's it. This is obviously not profitable for them so they changed the T&C's to counteract the stampede and ensure only genuine new customers joined.0 -
