Has anyone produced a graph of a say Thomson holiday cost and how it varies every week before booking,
eg 52 weeks before holiday the cost is £450 pp pw 51 weeks before the holiday £445 pp pw.
I understand the price goes up and down, when does it normlly peak and trough?

It will be dictated by supply and demand and pretty much impossible to predict or else everyone would be waiting to book in the troughs!
Familiarise yourself with prices in general for the time of year you wish to travel and then you will be in a position to book immediately you see a price that represents a bargain.0 -
Yes but a graph showing - say a holiday price for a august 15 holiday 2011 would be interesting to see, I understand holiday costs can increase at the weekends due to more bookings and holiday companies falsely put on 2 rooms remaining. Do prices increase 2 weeks before as limited supply or drop to get the spaces filled? If you dont ask for discount you don't get discount0

Supply and demand means that if there is a big football match or the Grand National on the TV most people (me excluded) are not on-line or in
the agents booking holidays for example.0 -
There are some package holiday short/medium haul low demand periods for England and Wales that I'm aware of;
Between the bank holidays in May (One week longer this year)
First 2.5 weeks in October
Holidays in December that are in the 2 weeks before Christmas returning back on or before 24th Dec
The supply in these periods is generally pretty good, so with low demand the prices can be good value.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Are prices generally low when schools are not holiday?I owe £3233 @ 0%0

Are prices generally low when schools are not holiday?
Not always, the first 2 weeks in september after the schools have gone back to school generally hold their price because a lot of people want to go then cause there arent so many kids there and its before the weather starts to drop cooler.0 -
The holiday pricing system is quite ridiculous in my opinion. Back 'in the day' it was simple, you booked early and paid more to be sure you got what you wanted, then nearer to the time the prices went lower. Now it is all over the place.
I am stuck with going away in the height of the season due to work (not a teacher so I have the disadvantage of a low salary and zero flexibility on when I can travel!) However, that is my choice I know.
We normally book independently - flight and accommodation, usually to Greece and hire a car. However this year it was so so expensive to do this we started looking at packages. We have had to compromise on where we are going to stay. The self catering package we settled on fluctuated over a four week period from £450 for two weeks to Greece self catering, down to £380, back up to £530 then suddenly within days down to £338 (at which point I swiftly booked it) - the next day the same thing was back up to nearly £600 and was then sold out!
This type of pricing is simply confusing and, for me, makes me lack confidence in the whole system. I am grateful that I happened to look online on the day that the price plummeted but it is hardly fair on the people who booked the next day and will be on the same plane as us, staying in the same apartments but nearly £300 worse off !
