Costco return policy, faulty item but now out of warranty

i know that Costco have always had a great reputation for their return policy being very good, but i'm sure i've read somewhere that they've changed this recently & imposed a lot more limitations on returns?
i've got a faulty electrical item (cost £70 & has only been lightly used) that was purchased in Aug 2009 & is out of it's 2 year warranty. i had a tiny little hope that i might get somewhere with a return as it was costco, but they've just stated out of warranty, can't help.
can anyone offer any guidance/recent experience?
thanks

i'll answer my own question just in case it helps anyone in the future...
it was my local branch that i'd rang earlier today to check when i purchased this item. out of it's 2 year warranty & can't help was their reply.
nothing ventured, nothing gained etc. so i emailed Costco head office this afternoon to see if they could offer any help.
they replied really quickly & confirmed i would be due a refund if i just took it back! i double checked & said that's not what my local branch had said. reply was "yes, refund definitely due, show them this email if any issue & say you've been in touch with XX at head office".
result! :T0 -
Thanks for letting us know. It could help someone else.0

Blimey that is good!
I would've said "SOGA, you need to prove it's faulty as it's over 6 months old" but obviously that isn't necessary.0 -
it definitely is good, which makes a refreshing change these days!
took it back earlier today & no questions asked at all, well impressed with Costco :T
certainly makes me more inclined to buy electrical items from them in the future, even if they are little more expensive in the 1st place.0 -
Just to add, that I too recently returned a small electrical item to Costco well out of it's two year guarantee. It cost originally approx. £120. No quibble at all. All money refunded with no questions. Can't beat them.0

I've always found costco to be ace with returns especially on electrical items:jI took a kettle back after two years without a receipt as it was faulty & they checked my account a refunded it with no problems (to be honest I hadn't realised I had had it over two years or I probably wouldn't have even tried to take it back). Thanks Costco0

I'm actually very disappointed with Costco for the first time ever. We bought a camera in July 2009 and have used it for family holidays since then. We went away last week and the camera has developed a lens fault and won't now take clear photos, if any photos. I phoned Costco to be told it can't be returned as it's out of warranty. I emailed Head Office, as the OP had done, and got a response back to say they couldn't do anything to help. I wouldn't have expected a camera to develop such a major fault after such relatively light use!!:(0
