My mother-in-laws husband died a couple of years ago and we suspect he may have held shares in a number of companies. Is there any way, or a service that could trace share ownership based on just a persons details, eg name, address, DoB, etc?

unfortunately he was very secretive and hid or destroyed most financial documents and no share certificates, bank statements etc were found.. let alone any knowledge of what he may or may not have had dealings with.. (apart from the credit card debts he left :( )..

our suspicion is that even if there were any such shares they would likely be worthless, but it may be worth looking into before giving up completely and moving on..
