Holiday ideas for someone with limited mobility

My Mum's best friend has just been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and is keen to make the most of the time they have left together. They always go on holiday together anyway both abroad and here and have favoured north Cornwall over the last few years as they both love walking and visiting historic gardens.
However her friend can't walk very far at all now and although they are looking to go away in the next few weeks my Mum is in a bit of a dilemma of where to go and what to see. She really doesn't want to go somewhere and be stuck inside or sat in the car as that will drive them both up the wall!
I have looked into hiring a mobility scooter but as my mum has a bad back I don't think she could manage getting one of the smaller ones into and out of the car. So I was thinking that maybe they should go somewhere that they could hire a bigger scooter and then stay within a town where they have lots to look around, a beach to go and sit on or a promenade to stroll along but wonder if anyone has any ideas?
They live in the Bristol area so about 2-3 hours drive would be the max. Plus if anyone has any ideas about wheelchair friendly places for them to visit both local and whilst on holiday, although they'll need to take a bus in order to take the scooter with them!

Have a look at the 'Able' magazine website.
http://ablemagazine.co.uk/
They have a travel guide and classifieds suitable for accessibility, and are even running a competition for a holiday to Cornwall (which will be accessible).
I am disabled and find this magazine useful, especially for the classifieds and links.
Or try the disability holidays guide as another starting point, link here:

Once you start looking, I think you will be surprised by how much useful information there is out there.
Hope this helps!0 -
http://www.goodaccessguide.co.uk/ is also very good and honest information. If the place is honest you can then decide if its good for you .Even if you have to struggle a little you know you will struggle a little . Its when the Bullsh1t come out and you are stranded .thats what hurts.
Best wishes to your mum & mate:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -
How about going on a coach trip holiday, then the moving of the scooter would be done by the driver?
My parents go on them and they have day trips out each day, meals provided and entertainment in the evening and they can be very reasonable
Hope this helps x0 -
