just had a call about money i haven't claimed from my accident?

hi everyone, ill try to keep this brief as i do have a habit of blabbing on.

i had an accident last year, which was the other drivers fault and he admitted to it being his fault. my car got repaired via his insurance company and that was that.

i made no claims for injury etc as it was a very hard impact.

however, i have just had a call from a lady i think she said from something like assistance assured or something like that who said that it is showing that i have about £1800 unclaimed from my accident.

she asked me a couple of details about the accident like what happened, the date it happened and my cars reg. she already had my address and name etc.

She said she would pass the info on to a specialist in the team who would look into what the £1800 is actually for and they would give me a call back in a couple of hours.

i just wanted to check has anyone else had anything like this? i am always a bit weary when I have people call me as there are so many scams etc going around but she seemed pretty genuine.

Obviously i won't give out and bank details etc but just wanted to see if anyone else has had this kind of call

Have you been living under a rock for the last 5 years or so? These calls are routine now following a road accident - your insurance company has sold on your details. Were you actually injured in the accident? Expect them to claim you must have suffered whiplash, and therefor entitled to compensation from the other driver's insurance company.

lol, i guess so. i don't know an awful lot about accident claims etc as this was my very first one.

and i have to say it wasn't as straight forward as i thought it would be, my insurance would help me as i was only 3rd party fire and theft and told me to go to a company that deals with it on my behalf. i can't remember what they were called but went through them and there was nothing but trouble as i didn't want the courtesy car and they wouldn't do the work unless i had the car so i declined.

then went to his insurance company saga and they sorted it out straight away, again offered me a car which i declined. they took my car for about a week and i got it back problem sorted.

i didn't have any injuries (just a bit shook up as never been in an accident before) and i was the only one in the car.

But that was it. So do they just call up everyone thats had an accident in the hope of making a claim?

they call everyone they text people randomly just in the hope someone will say yes. The first lady has probably just made £50 by referring your number to a bunch of legal eagles one step up from the criminal fraternity.

If you want to know why your insurance is going up, this is why.

I'd tell them to do one and that you weren't injured (I've had a similar call) but now they know you were in an accident don't expect them to take no for an answer.

I eventually stopped answering their calls and they got the message.

    5t.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

I've never had an injury accident but am constantly receiving texts telling me that they have the compensation I'm due. Perhaps next time I'll just ask them to post me a cheque then:)

Yes, they do just call up everyone that has had an accident in the hope of making a claim. If you want to stop them calling, tell them you've already claimed.

i too constantly receive those texts/ automated messages saying I'm due compensation for my accident/ reclaiming pip etc but this call was completely different.

she knew all my details, she knew that i made a claim and said the other driver was at fault, she knew that the other driver had admitted fault and that the claim was now closed.

but she said there is £1800 sat there from the claim unclaimed. she even asked me did i have any idea as to what the £1800 could be for.

i said no as i wasn't injured, my car was fixed by the other persons insurance and that was the end of it i thought.

thats when she said she would get a specialist to look into it and give me a call and hopefully they'll be able to figure out what the £1800 is for.

if this was a call about claiming compensation for injury why did she not mention that at all and why did she specifically say that thee is a sum of £1800?!

    im a bit confused

No I haven't had any insurance quotes since Feb and that was because I sold the car I had the accident in and have now got a VW polo.

I also forgot to mention that the accident was a year ago (may 2011). I don't know if that is siqnificant at all but thought I would mention it.

The £1,800 is for your non existent injuries which they will embellish into a great story and because it is under £2k it is cheaper for the insurer to settle.

I hit someone at walking pace and they shafted the insurer for £1,900.

I had something similar. Had an accident 24th dec 2009 (perfect timing!). My insurance company was a huge chocolate teapot so I went with an accident management co, who were brilliant I have to say. The other driver admitted etc. so it was sorted.

About 6 months after it was sorted i started getting texts saying i was due £3kish for my accident. I never replied but they persisted for about a year.

Not sure out of the 3 parties involved (my ins co, TP insurers and Acident mgmtb co) had my mobile no. but someone sold it on.
