Help Please Downloading manual

Can anyone please help, bearing in mind my knowledge of IT is basic?
I'm trying to get a user manual from the Sony Site. I downloaded it in PDF Windows doesn't recognize the file. I've got Acroba t6 and the files supposed to be dloaded to desktop but there's nothing there. I've tried dloading to My Docs but nothing there either.

Presumably you are right-clicking on the download link and selecting 'Save File as..' (or Save Target as, etc) and making sure it is saved to your desktop? And after the download there is no icon on your desktop at all???

Can you open other .pdf files OK?

Sorry to ask such stupid questions, but it is sometimes the most basic of things that can go wrong. :)

I don't know if this is anything to do with it but I can't download stuff using Mozilla Firefox - sometimes it works and some not, and it just says "done" - but leaves a white page and isn't done at all. I've looked at download settings and other things and can't work it out so I download those things using IE. Of course your problem might be nothing to do with that!

Thanks, yes I'm using Firefox and I do right click on save and it tells me downloading is complete but I've just got a blank page and nothing on my desktop.
    thanks again.

I've had this a couple of times in the past with Firefox. The download didn't show on my desktop, but I found it in the desktop folder.

Have a look in C>Windows>Desktop folder. This is where I've found them in the past when it didn't appear on my screen.

A common cause of Firefox download failures is that the nominated download directory no longer exists.

    Can you try the following:

In the firefox address bar type: about:config

    Scroll down to browser.download.defaultFolder

And let us know what is in the 'Status', 'type' and 'value' columns for that Preference name ??

(Fran, I don't recall if we went through this with your problem or not - feel free to try this as well and we can see if we can get it sorted)

There's always something new to surface isn't there?!

The nearest I've got is: browser.download.folderList

    Status - default
    Type - integer
    Value - 0

LOL - keeps some of us in jobs Fran ! ;)

OK, that 'browser.download.defaultFolder' value looks fine, but it may be that you do not have a default downloads folder set. Try this:

In Firefox: Tools ---> Options ---> Downloads

Click 'Save all files to this folder'

Click on the down arrow to the right of the box, and select 'Desktop'

OK your way out, and try looking in about:config for a default folder again as above
