Australian Resident - Do we have to pay inheritance tax in UK?

Hi, My mother has just died in Australia. She has been an Australian resident for 6 years. She has cash assets in the UK plus a half share in a property with a sitting tenant. She has a property and cash assets in Australia also. We do not have to pay inheritance tax in Australia.
Please could someone advise if we have to pay inheritance tax in England or can her assets be moved to Australia to avoid the UK inheritance tax?

IHT liability is applicable on UK assets regardless of where the deceased was resident. I think HMRC would see it as tax evasion if the assets are moved after death. (How do you move a house to Australia?)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
