Blackberry 9300 - sound problems when people call me

I have had my phone about a year, it is on contract for 2 years, and when someone calls, after a minute or so, the callers voice drags, becomes distorted and will then cut off of the call continues. For example, 'hello' will sound as 'hhhhh eeeee llllllllll ooooooo' with a quavering sound.

Most of the time people call me so not sure if it happens when I call them.

It is really odd and hard to explain - I've tried to google it but cannot find what words to use to look for a problem to find out what it could be related to (wireless, email push, etc..)

Now it is just becoming bloody annoying and I hate using the damn thing. Does anyone know what this could be please and do phones have some sort of warranty while they are under contract or am I expected to replace it myself?

Thank you for the reply, I have never connected it so I'll have to dig the cables out and will do just that.

    Thank you very much.

    Speaker fault?
No, the warranty will only be as long as the manufacturer provides, after that it's down to you. Probably 12m but check the terms, some phones are 24m.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    It's a software glitch...

Is this ALL the time, or whenever you are within a Wireless Network?

I have the same issue occasionally when I am within any Wireless Zone that my Blackberry connects to, as it reverts to "UMA" for calls rather than using the mobile network. This feature is extremely useful in theory (being that at home you have coverage for example, but do have a WiFi connection) but in practice I often experience the same sort of symptoms you do.

That's a separate issue and UMA is only available on Orange and Vodafone

My suggestion was that if the phone is running on UMA and the sound issue does sound similar to the effect of poor UMA signal, then turning wireless off may help the problem.

OP also never mentioned which network they use, and could quite easily be on Orange or Vodafone.

Hi again, yes I am on Orange and I have noticed that it does say UMA sometimes. No, it is not all the time, thinking about it now it is only when I am at home really and I walk from room to room trying to get a better signal.

I tend to get a phone, plug it in and use it, I downloaded Facebook but do not use it for a lot else, I never reaslied it had the Desktop Manager or I could upgrade it.

What setting should I have on the phone for the Data?

This has been really useful thanks, just doing the upgrade now, I found the box and leads this morning. I'll be back later when they are done.

Thought it may be part of the problem at least. If you find you are connected to WiFi and it appears with UMA, I find the cause is that I don't have very quick internet and that the sound distortion is due to the noise "streaming" poorly. If your signal in the house is normally quite good, turn WiFi off at home (Home Screen->Manage Connections->Deselect Wireless) and you will revert to normal network coverage, which in turn should alleviate the issue.

Let us know how you get on!

Thanks I will do - just have to wait for someone to call me now.....

I have updated the phone today, it took ages but did tell me it needed an update - did not know it had half of that stuff on there, the desktop thing is on my computer too - and now the phone looks completely different and I have to find everything, LOL. But it is all good, thanks for your help.
