Timer Alarm Gizmo (for reminders)

Options
Hi there

I'm looking to buy a small timer alarm which I can set to remind me to move away from my computer frequently and do some exercises. I have a painful degernative neck condition which is made worse by not moving around, and regular exercise definitely relieves some of the pain ~ but I find I get so involved in working at the computer and staring at the screen .......

I would like to set the alarm to go off hourly during the day - from monday to friday only.

Does anyone know of such an item at a reasonable price please? Hope you can help.

With thanks

Hey there Miami, sorry to hear about your neck I sympathise I have RA and it's murder in the neck. Re the alarm, can you not set up something on your mobile, I have a setting in mine called tasks and it will let me put reminders in and set an alarm, either that or just set the actual alarm for a few hours maybe 1 or 2 depending on the interval you need between rest and movement. Of course you could always get a little lcd timer from a pound shop like the ones used for cooking, mainly only go up to 1 hour but it may help and it'll be cheap, good luck.

Gotta be a piece of free software that can do that. Have a look on Download.com for Alarm or Reminder. Set it to free license and use the rating system to make your choice.

    Miami,

There are different ways to do this:
If you have Outlook on your PC you can set alarms there. If not a free program like Stickies should do:

    http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/stickies/

It's like Post-It notes for the PC. I've just checked mine and one option is to set it to show a reminder note every hour with a sound. It takes a little figuring out but once you have mastered it, it should do the trick.

I also saw this mentioned in a copy of PC Answers. It's called Scream Saver:

    http://www.infinn.com/screamsaver.html

It is marketed as 'break reminder software'. You can download a free demo for 30 days and see what you think. Then it costs £19.95. HTH.
  • Thank you SO much ~ I've downloaded it to my home PC and it looks great ~ and I'll try it at work on Monday. Thanks for taking the time.

indeed most PIM (Personal Information Manager) type software should be able to do something similar too:

    https://www.essentialpim.com is particularly excellent :-)

Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying
