Been having problems connecting wirelessly to home internet from both laptops, and even wired in with an ethernet cable, phoned Virgin Media to moan and they said try it wired directly into the Virgin (NTL) cable modem, and it worked fine. They offered me their latest (apparently) all singing wireless hub, that will also take 4 wired connections, plus increase of internet speed from 10Mb to 30Mb for an extra £10 pcm, is that a good deal?
Or am i better buying a decent new wireless router myself?

it depends how you look at it 10 quid extra for 3 times the speed aint bad. What other services do you have with them we have tv which is 2 tivo boxes broadband and phone, plus 2 mobiles and got upgraded from 10 meg to 60 for 4 pounds. There routers are rubbish so I wouldnt worry about that part of the deal0

They are doubling speeds from 10 - 20 here free of charge to me and countrywide I think; so if they are doing that anyway maybe better to wait and pay nowt.0

Cheers guys, can anyone recommend a good reliable wireless router? My Old belkin one is about 7 yrs old and even after a recent firmware/driver update, still constantly hangs up grrrrr
Thanks again0 -
I would tell them to shove the 30mb connection. Only a week or two ago, I helped somebody get their cable modem replaced with a SuperHub. Just tell them there is no power to it - rather than send you a PSU (which is very unlikely), they will order a replacement modem. However, because they are rolling out SuperHubs, you will be sent one of these which work perfectly well on 10mb connections.
It just so happens that the person I helped, also had 10mb broadband, and previously had a blue Ambit 255 (or 250) cable modem. Now they still have 10mb, but on a SuperHub. If the faults department won't help you, go through to disconnections.0 -
I posted on one of virgins forums mentioning that I was having problems with my router, dropped connections. felt hot, etc. what could be wrong and how to fix it, and a few days later I had a new one delivered to my door.0

Thanks again people, poppell and jan I didn't even think to 'twist' the truth so to speak... They have more than enough money out of me so I will indeed try for a freebie!
Thanks again everyone0 -
