Can play USB on LG DVX692H DVD player

Hi,
I got my parents the above at the weekend and it plays DVDs fine. Tonight I popped round with a USB pen for them, with some songs on it and two movies, and confidently stuck the USB stick into the slot and expected it all to go smoothly.
However, not so. An icon "USB" came up, so it obviously recognises that a USB pen has been inserted, but it does not allow you to actually access anything on the USB pen. I tried pressing enter, play, and basically everything that could possibly work. It says something about registering to play downloaded DIVX or something like that, but surely I don't need to do anything like that?
Anyway, hope this problem is common enough for someone to know what I am on about and maybe help me, as currently I'm in a bit of a difficult position with 2 elderly parents relying on me!
Thanks in advance.
Duncan

You'll need to dig the manual out and let us know which files the DVD player can play. Very few DVD players can play all types. Video comes in all sorts of compressions/formats. Think of it as different paintings, oil, water, crayon etc......
Once we now which files it can play we then need to find a convertor for you, a piece of software that will convert the video format.
Is this a one off or will your parents like to watch films and stuff from USB more often? Is so it may be worth investing in something like this......http://www.amazon.co.uk/Designer-Habitat-Nano-3-0-Flashdrives/dp/B005ERNITE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336686932&sr=8-1Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -
Hi both, sorry to drop off there
I hit bit of a brick wall, tried a different USB stick with same results, and then registered it as the DVD player told me to and saved a registering movie to DVD and put that in (from USB), and it seems to have worked. Having said that, I don't really understand what I did, why it works etc :o and of the two films I put on only one was accepted to play, even though they are both AVI files. I will put some songs on again and see if they work for them. Getting there though, but I am shocked at how tricky it is.
Thanks for the guidance.
