remove accounts from online view, Halifax

I have 2 old savings accounts that no longer have any money in them because the interest rate dropped so I opened new ones.
However when I log onto my Halifax online banking they are still showing with a zero balance.
Can I stop them showing or will I have to go to a branch and close them?
I would phone them up but the last time I phoned them it cost me £4 in phone charges.
Virgin Media phone calls are not cheap, especially to 0845 numbers and they are not even free at the weekend.
I tried asking their online help but I don't think they understood what I wanted to do, I just want to tidy up my online view so it only shows the accounts I want it to show.

I like say no to 0870, though I pay a little extra per month on vodafone to get free 0845, 0870, 0800 calls for free so I'm ok calling virgin which seems to be quite frequently the amount of times it goes down.
I always complain at having to call a 0845 number on my mobile and usually they give £5 off the next bill :-)
Some of these companies though, I'll name SKY use 0844 numbers which are not free. Also when I ask them for the ported 01506 number they refuse to give it out and any numbers on saynoto0870 as soon as they are published are taken down by Sky again. Rip off SKY.0 -
I recently wrote in and closed several old accounts after which they dropped off their on-line system. Cost a second class stamp.Ethical moneysaver0

I asked about this the other day. You can either close them in branch or write a letter to

I actually asked mine to be closed in branch, but it wasn't, then I got some interest a bit later on, so maybe remember to ask for all of the money + interest to be paid into another account before it's closed? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. We’re sorry, but you don't have any accounts that can be accessed through Online Banking. Please call us on 08456 020 000 (+44 1132 798 302 from outside the UK) for further assistance.
on putting in my security details. I thought I'd get access denied or something, seems they have kept my internet / banking profile :-(0 -
I went into a branch to close an internet savings accounts and a credit card. They closed the credit card for me but told me that the internet account would have to be closed online. Tried that and couldn't do it so phoned up to close and they said that to close it I would have send a letter!? Its 2012, what is going on?
Anyway sent the letter and a week later the account had disappeared from the online screen.0 -
I've just found out that I can access my accounts by signing on to the BoS website as well as the Halifax website.
So should I write to the Halifax or BoS?
Also how can I tell if they are Halifax or Bos accounts as they were opened in a Halifax branch which is now a BoS branch?
Also I live in Scotland.0 -
It doesn't matter. I have closed both Halifax and bos accounts at my bank of Scotland branch. As long as it isn't an online account the process should be quite straight forward.0
