Legoland Windsor via public transport ?

I was wondering if anyone has been to Legoland Windsor using public transport ?
Or stayed at any child friendly hotels (not very expensive) that may shuttle/be on bus routes to and from there ?
I don't drive, and will be travelling with a 4 and 7 year old, my 7 year ols is lego crazy and it would be a lovely surprise break if I can make it work.

Get a free 2 month Family and friends railcard and at the ticket office ask for a train ticket to Legoland Windsor, this will give you free bus travel from Windsor & Eton Riverside to Legoland.

This was a couple of years ago that I did that so hopefully nothing has changed, I bought the ticket from ticket office at Waterloo station.

Myself and my son did it last year. Was a bit long winded for us as we travelled from Poole, so nearly 3 1/2 hours and 3 changes. But it was a pleasant journey and if I had overnight accommodation I would do it again. The train for legoland is Windsor riverside and then its a short ish walk to get bus (10 mins). Buses run every half hour, from theatre royal. I think fares were couple of pound. Bus was empty going, but very busy coming back, but I do believe they put on extra buses when its busy.

You don't give your starting point which doesn't exactly help.

There is a direct bus about once an hour from London Victoria and a few points in west London which might prove more convenient than the train/bus combo
