E-mails issues using Samsung Galaxy S

I have set up my phone to be able to read/send e-mails. It was simple to set up, and my e-mail address is myname@blueyonder.co.uk

For the past year, all has been fine, but suddenly, when trying to send e-mails, either new ones or forwarded ones, they just go into the outbox and there they stay?

I've tried deleting and re-installing the app, all the POP, SMTP settings are populated automatically, any idea why this is happening?

  • Hi,
I can sympathise with your email problems, as it is a problem with Blueyonder.

Many people have been having the same issue, and it appears to be mainly Apple Macs or non windows equipment that have the issue.
All emails are being received without issue, but when sending, the emails refuse to go.

On my Mac, if I keep resending they will eventually go, but it is a pain.

Lots of people have approached Virgin, but it appears that nobody from Virgin is providing a solution. It may be worth you getting in touch with them as well, as the more people that complain, the more likely they are to take note.

    Hope this helps

I occasionally get the same thing happen on my iPad with gmail. When I use the Mail software on the iPad it sometimes doesn't get sent and opens up an Outbox instead. I'll be interested in any solutions to your problem.

It could be an issue with the SMTP settings. Some networks will only allow sending through the network's SMTP server, not that of a third party. I would start by checking with your network provider.

To me it sounds like the SMTP settings are wrong. Don't Blueyonder use SSL over port 465, but many clients try to submit to 25 by default?

Surely the app allows you to set that, give that the ports for SMTP can vary and require SSL or TLS, different types of authentication/sasl etc????

Just checked my outgoing settings, and it is set to port 465 and SSL.

This morning, I completely deleted the e-mail account off my phone and re-installed it. I tried composing and forwarding e-mails but again, just went into my outbox. I have been checking all morning, and they did eventually both get sent, about 2-3 hours later!

Just don't understand how it's been working perfectly for months, but then causes an issue.

I have sent Virgin an email and will update this thread if I ever get this resolved.

    Thanks all

  • Are you trying to send over WIFI or mobile?

If mobile then there has been widespread problems with networks being added to spam lists.
Thanks - have always just used my data allowance but, just switched over to wifi and e-mails have been sent 1st time! Any idea if the spam network thingy has a workaround?

  • You have found the answer !

The issue was that you were using SMTP server settings appropriate to your broadband when using the mobile network !

That is why providers such as Googlemail which can be used over any connection are best.

By the way, can anyone recommend a free SMTP server provider. I used Vodafone360 but that shut ?

The main reason there are so few free SMTP providers left is they get abused by spammers
