Can I see if previous planning permission has been refused?

Hi all

I am viewing a house tomorrow that came on the market just this week. It looks lovely and appears to have masses of potential.

Is there a way of finding out if anyone has tried to get planning permission for an extension or adding a detached single/double garage and had it refused?

I can't see why any planning permission would be refused but its a point my stepdad brought up when discussing what potential the house has.

If not no worries just thought I would ask. Thanks.

I've looked it up before, but I think it depends on the council. You'll need to contact the council for wherever the house is located I believe. I don't think there is a central location.

I delved a bit further into my local council page and they do provide details for all applications back to 2001, I cant find any for the property I am interested in so unless I have missed it I will assume for now it's good news for me :)

Check with your local Council. Ours used to go back to 1948.

They will hold the 'Planning History' of alll pieces of land going back to 1947 (the date when the current planning system started) or when ever the first planning application was made if it was after 1947.

Much of it will be paper based and held in archive. You may have to make a formal request and there maybe a delay in getting it plus there may be a charge but it is still available and it may mean spending hours going through it.

Your best bet is to speak with the planners now about your proposals and see how they fall in with the local plan and current regulations.
