EDF - Random E-Mail!

Hi

I was just wondering if anybody else has had an e-mail from EDF recently? I've received one today saying:

'As discussed we have prepared your personal energy quotation based on the information you provided during your call with Kate Beattie today.'

Which is odd as I haven't had a phone conversation with anybody from EDF in a long time!

They have listed new tariffs that I can transfer onto after my tariff (fixed saver v2) There is a fixed until June 2014 which will cost me £380.00 more per year!!

Also does anybody know if you make a one of payment on the EDF web-site, will it just get credited to your account balance?

I pay a set amount by direct debit, but my electricity usage has shot up due to have a premature baby in the house who is on oxygen 24 hours a day. The oxygen company has reimbursed me for the electricity used and I would like to use the money to credit my account, but I have never made a one of payment before and wasn't sure how it worked? Any ideas?

Thanks.

May be a good idea to enter your consumption figures (kWh) into an energy comparison site to see whether there are cheaper tariffs available. If you know you will be using more energy than you have in the past then you will need to make an estimate of what extra energy you will be using and for how long.

It will be credited to your account.

    Sounds like spam.

You can always make extra payments via credit/debit card or via BGC.

You just have to ensure if you do this, you account number for your supplier is included in the transaction otherwise they would get it and not know who it is for.

Did EDF offer their Blue +Price Promise September 2013 which is attracting a lot of attention at the moment. I would expect this tariff to come out fairly high on comparison site lists.

The fixed June 2014 will, however, give you longer at fixed rates so it depends on whether you think the extra tariff costs will offset any price rises between Sept 2013 and June 2014.

For me, the June 2014 would cost an extra £138 per year at my consumption levels (medium-ish) and in my region (Eastern). It may, of course, be quite different for your consumption and region.

Frankly, the circumstances of your email seem a little strange. Might be worth a phone call to EDF to check it out. I wouldn't respond to the email or use any links it contains just in case it's a phishing expedition at work.
