Which Credit Card for Car Hire

I don't have any credit cards - never have but this summer we are going on holiday to France and want to hire a car whilst we are there. I've heard that the process is a whole lot easier if you have a credit card so am thinking about getting one soley for that reason and do not intend to use it for anything else, unless I have to. Are there any particular things I need to consider when choosing a card to apply for, deals etc? Thanks.

For car hire, any one will do. As to which one you should get for any other benefits, depends on your credit rating and needs.0

Any visa or mastercard will do, Amex you'd be unlikely to get if you dont have a credit history but wouldnt be the best due to not being accepted as widely.
Again, if you dont have much history but otherwise are good risk then your own bank may be the best option0 -
Also, if you're hiring a higher grade of car they sometimes ask for two cards or Amex - I hired an S Class Merc from Heathrow then a Range Rover at Dublin airport - both Hertz - and was asked for two cards at both locations..Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.0
