Any ambient tempreture restriction on putting a combi boiler in a garage

Hi,

Im looking to get a Worcester Bosch 30CDi boiler fitted as the one I have now is in a very inconvenient location. I was hoping to have the boiler fitted in the garage that joins onto the house ( boiler will be mounted against the adjoining wall with the house) with a vertical flue.

Obviously a garage can get a bit chilly during the colder months and I was wondering if this would cause the boiler any problems ?

Is there an ambient temperature limit for boilers ?

Thank you

Hi: have you had a RGI in to conduct a site survey and discuss your requirements? Alternatively, contact WB for the definitive answer. Installation in an unheated space can raise issues/additional requirements.

I've got a boiler in the garage, it's got frost protection fitted so that it fires up the heating/hot water circuit whenever the garage drops below 5 degrees to protect itself.

One thing to watch - you see frost protection kits with pipe and air temperature sensors, kicking in when both drop below a set temperature. Mine was only fitted with an air sensor so whenever the garage drops below 5 degrees the boiler fires up and keeps running until the garage gets above 5 degrees - even though the pipework and boiler is hot the thing keeps running.

we have an oil boiler and the frost stat caused the boiler to run almost constantly the winter before last, we removed the frost stat and just run the boiler 24hrs a day on a sensibke setting. The frost stat overrode the room and radiator stats in the house. I was going to put a frost stat on the pipes as this seemed the best option but haven't got round to it yet

You should have a frost stat fitted in series with a pipe stat, which is fitted on the return pipe to the boiler.

Many new boilers have a frost stat built in, many have a 2 stage frost stat for extra protection.

Ask your installer which is best for your circumstances.
