reclaiming PPI from GE Money/ Staybright windows

Hello,
I'm just after a little bit of advice..
A few years ago we had some windows from zenith staybright and paid for them on credit. The credit was with GE money.
In October I started to reclaim missold PPI from a number of our creditors (main reason being that my partner is self employed and a lot of the loans were either joint or in his name).
We have been successful with most, but have been having real problems with GE money (and believe they owe us thousands!!).
We are on a DMP with CCCS and our debt with GE money has been sold onto Link Financial. Any PPI that we do reclaim will go towards paying the rest of our debts off through CCCS.
At first GE money were saying thay they could find no account details for us, then they ignored us for months and now they are saying we will have to contact zenith staybright as it was their sales person who sold us the PPI (I remember a very annoying sales person being sat in my living room until 10pm on a saturday night until we agreed!)... but is that correct that I need to contact the window company when it was actually GE money the loan and PPI was with?

you have answered your own question, you said the window sales person sold it, so if you are alleging something has been mis-sold, who do you think you contact?0 -
If I knew the answer then I wouldnt be asking would I!
Yes it was a sales man from staybright who sold us the windows and did all the forms for the credit, but the credit was with GE Money and its GE money who have pocketed the PPI and therefore in my view its GE money that will have to pay me back - thats why I'm confused that they are asking me to contact staybright?2012 wins = £933 :j

so you contact them about a mis-saleYes it was a sales man from staybright who sold us the windows and did all the forms for the credit
No, Staybright would have pocketed probably about 60% of the premium for selling it. GE are the lender/ the provider of the finance, not the seller.but the credit was with GE Money and its GE money who have pocketed the PPI
but they havent done anything wrong, they are the lender, you need to make the payments to someone. If you are alleging something has been mis-sold then they didnt sell you anything. GE are the supplier of the finance, Staybright are the broker of the sale and are responsible for the sale, they are the ones who sat in front of you, probably led you on, didnt explain the PPI, didnt disclose the cost of it, pressured you into taking it. It doenst matter who you pay it to as your beef is about a sale of a product, so you complain to the seller.and therefore in my view its GE money that will have to pay me back
Your confusion has come from the constant use of the word "claim". as people make out you claim your premiums back, which makes it sound like you are contacting the company you pay payments to. When actually this is incorrect. You are complaining about the sale of the product.- thats why I'm confused that they are asking me to contact staybright?
Remember, there is nothing wrong with having PPI, despite what you have read, its not illegal and does provide cover. Just because you have PPI doesnt mean its mis-sold. Its the way its sold is the issue, being eligible for it, it being suitable for you (if you were provided with advice), you being given correct information etc etc. Which is why i keep banging on about 'sale"
Also when was it sold? if it were pre 14 Jan 2005, then neither will be under FOS jurisdiciton anyway so it will just be a losing battle.
I hope I have explained.0 -
Thank for your clarification. I will write to Zenith Staybright at the address I was given for them by GE Money ... unfortunately the address is for an administrator, so I presume they are no longer trading. I'm guessing this will make it highly unlikely that I will get anything back?
The sale was September 2005 and from what I have read I do definitely think it was miss-sold.2012 wins = £933 :j
2013 wins so far = £4,025 :j

as its Sept 2005, contact the FSCS on 020 7741 4100, they will help, they deal with all the complaints for companies gone bust.

Hello, just like to know if you were successful in your claim. I ask because your situation almost exactly mirrors my own. In my case i had already agreed to buy the windows but still had to ask the salesmen to leave as he had been there for hours. My angst is i believe that I paid two lots of ppi. One to zenith and the other to C E. money. After 5 years of my 10 year repayment (funnily also starting in 2005)i was sent a letter from one of the two (will have to find the letter) saying that my cover has now ended ;whereas the other party were still taking money out of my account, until I stopped it.0

This thread is over 3 years old. You would be better creating a new thread if you have questions that have not been answered in this thread.0

Since the OP of this thread was active on this site only this month, it's not unreasonable to ask how their complaint progressed. Starting a new thread in these circumstances would be even less likely to reach the intended recipient.welshgasman wrote: »This thread is over 3 years old. Many old threads here are replied to years after they were originally posted, this is because people often use the forum search function to find similar problems and/or providers. They mistakenly believe the conversations are current and don't see the date they were posted.
As to the new question, I would doubt that GE Money would have accepted liability for any mis-sale but I think the OP may have had better luck approaching FSCS.0
