A little help with my first family holiday please :)

I'm aware there are many helpful links and articles to read, I have done so. But would like some personalised advice about my own circumstances.
I LOVE shopping for a holiday bargain, and once managed to organize a 17 day trip to new york and florida, including disneyland and universal studios for me and my friend. Overall cost was under £800 :money: (although it did involve an overnight train journey, trying to sleep on the seats etc and 2 hours waiting in York at 1am...)
But that was when I was younger, free and single!
Now I have a partner and a 6 month old baby. We would love to go on our first family holiday, although I'm unsure about what kind of holiday would be best for us.
UK? Abroad? Europe? Ireland? I'd be pre booking so baby would probably be well over 1 yr old when we go on holiday. Am I right in thinking you don't need to pay for a airplane seat under a certain age?
Can you get cheap cruise deals? We can drive, so could drive to a UK destination. Are the plain and simple butlins style places worth it? Are they value for money? I've been to centerparks once but it was mega expensive!
Are you better off hiring a little private holiday home?
I appreciate you reading all my waffle!

Sorry, but too much waffle, which is why you have had no replies.
I would suggest renting an apartment from one of the online rental companies and finding a budget flight.0 -
Hiya, You are correct you dont need to pay for a seat on the plane till the baby is two.
The first time we took LO abroad we went to an apartment because I wanted to be able to make her food and keep to her routine. we have also gone to haven and although they are OK for a mini break in low season, In high season they are expensive and very busy.
Now we always go all inclusive because the kids can eat (or not eat lol) what they like and the entertainment is geared towards them.

Since we had kids we've been on a lot of holidays to holiday parks like Haven, Siblu, Keycamp etc both here and abroad (France, Spain, Italy) usually staying in static caravans which are great for families, much better than a poky hotel room/apartment. Loads of entertainment, loads of space for the kids to play, and quite often right on a beach.
Make the most of being able to go outside the school holidays before the kids are in school, you can get very cheap deals in June/early July or September.0
