Short term home insurance?

Hi,

I have just sold my flat a lot quicker than I thought and so will be moving to a family members empty house for 6 months until our house is built. I have phoned a few insurance providers to ask about 6 months home insurance but they have said they don't do it. Just wondered if anyone knows of any company that provides short term insurance?

Thanks!

No, but there are some insurers that dont charge a cancellation fee if you cancel early. Whilst I wouldnt recommend them Paymentshield are one example (their policy is actually a monthly policy with an annual review)

You can cancel Lloyds tsb (annual) home policies without penalty with 14 days notice at any time. If you pay annually you get a full refund of the unused premium.

Definitely get quotes from those providers who don't charge a cancellation fee.

Also get alternative quotes to see which would work out cheaper. Ie if Lloyds or Payment Shield cost £300 initially and you can find a policy at £200 with a £35 cancellation fee obviously this will be cheaper.

Make sure that you also check if there are any admin fees to be added to the cancellation charge.

    How come?

eg As far as LLoyds TSB are concerned, if they cost £300 initially and you cancel at 6 months, then you would pay £150!!

Just out of interest, why wouldn't you recommend them?

As I would never recommend any insurer as I'd have a conflict of interest :)

Ah right, I read your post as if there was an issue with them that meant you wouldn't recommend them.
One has to be very careful with communication (I mean what is inferred as well as what is implied :-)

Sometimes double entendres can be useful to get your message across but give you plausible deniability :)

They don't get good recommendations on line!

And brokers don't seem to like em either (though that looks down to them reducing their commission):

Why not just advise your current insurers of a change of address?
