Tomtom Map update price increase

I've had a Tomtom satnav for quite a few year and thought I'd buy a new one. I saw one I was interested in and thought I'd check the map updates. At the moment I pay just under £20 a year for 4 updates. Looking at the Tomtom website for the cost to update maps now is £79 for a year. Now my maths are not that great but I make that £300% increase.
Now I think that when your paying over £100 for the satnav another £79 a year is a bit steep.

Another option would be to not bother with the updates ;)

I have had my Tom for over 5 years and never bothered with any updates, it still gets me to where I am going even if it does not recognise some road changes and if the destination is not recognised, I either drive round until I find it or horror of horrors  I ask someone :)

Good to know that I have saved so much over the years by not updating. :T

Think the new price includes updates for 18 months....There was a offer a while back for twenty pounds.

however I've had my tomtom for 5 years and it is forever prompting me about how old my Mao is....however the M1 and M6 motorways are still the same.......aren't they ?

£20 is the update price for units currently with the latest UK map, £40 for an old map. £50 is the update for EU for an old map, with the latest map it would be £25.
