I have two old video recorders and I am trying to set up at least one to record tv on my DGM tv but it isn't finding the pictures properly. Do I need something else to be able to record off the tv since the analogue changes? Thanks
Be thankful for what you have because it could all be taken away tomorrow.;)

The analogue tuners in your video won't be any good now or by the end of 2012. (digital switchover, see below. the main 5 channels go for good)
Best replacement is a PVR (Freeview+ recorder)digital box as long as your aerial is ok for Freeview.- Border (including Isle of Man) – switchover completed
- Granada – switchover completed
- West Country – switchover completed
- Wales– switchover completed
- West – switchover completed
- STV North (including Shetland Isles) – switchover completed
- Channel Islands – switchover completed
- STV central – switchover completed
- Anglia - switchover completed
- Central - switchover completed
- Yorkshire - switchover completed
- Meridian - switchover in progress
- London - Switchover starts April 2012. Retune dates: 4th April and 18th April.
- Tyne Tees - switchover starts Sept 2012. Retune dates: 12th Sept and 26th Sept.
- Northern Ireland - switchover starts Oct 2012. Retune dates: 10th Oct and 24th Oct.

Thanks for the quick reply. My switch over is complete so I guess my video recorders are only any good for watching old videos now.
Another question, I have a small tv with a built in dvd player, would I still be able to connect a dvd recorder to it and if so how would I access it as I assume when I go to dvd on the tv it will come up with the in built dvd player not any dvd recorder I connect.Be thankful for what you have because it could all be taken away tomorrow.;)

Even if you hooked up a cheapo digi box to your ole videos you'd have trouble recording channels when you were out as your digi box would be stuck on the same channel. (videoplus was invented for the old sky boxes and vcr's same trouble)
(wish I would have kept my vcr for the cheap availability of vhs tapes in charity shops etc.)0 -

I used to video through my virgin box, but as you have said I could only do it on the channel it was on and now I no longer have the box.Be thankful for what you have because it could all be taken away tomorrow.;)

You'd select/switch to, the scart or phono input of your dvd recorder on the small tv0 -

Thanks for the quick replies. I'll watch the videos I have and take a trip to Argos tomorrow for a new dvd recorder:beer:Be thankful for what you have because it could all be taken away tomorrow.;)

Depending on your budget, might be better to get one with a hard-drive too and you'll need twin tuners if your tv doesn't have freeview built in.
A PVR might be the best solution.0 -
Might be worth checking out the SonySVRHDT 1000 with 2 tuners recorder.
Quite a few reviews on Ama*on. I've had no probs with mine and it stores around a fab 600 programmes. Plus you can always connect up an external hard drive to it , thus creating even more space.Relatively easy to use, although I'm sure it does stuff I've yet to suss out !
You can't play dvd's on it though.Am the proud holder of an Honours Degree

This is the dvd recorder I was looking at buying http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5337266.htm I was looking at the offer for the hdmi cables and trying to find out what they are though and wether I need one. Does the hdmi cable replace the scart lead?
I have £125 in love2shop vouchers, which is why I am looking at ArgosBe thankful for what you have because it could all be taken away tomorrow.;)

HDMI does replace scarts when playing back HD content.
Having a DVD recorder without a hard drive is going to limit the amount of recording you can do in one go and disc management is a pain.
Either a hard drive built into a DVD freeview recorder or Tv freeview recorder (PVR) saves all the messing about.0
