Toilet Troubles

Evening all.

Hoping someone can give me some quick guidence on an issue I've got with the toilet. I've got an impulse top flush toilet which has been fine for the last 3 years. Tonight however when we flushed it, the tank was refilling but water was still coming out into the bowl. I lifted the cistern lid and found that the centre plunger was still down and hadn't sprung back up. Manually lifted it back up and the water flow into the bowl stopped and the cistern filled normally. I've found a broken spring in the cistern which I'm guessing is the spring which pops the plunger back up after flushing, but I've no idea where it's come from. Can anyone help with alittle cistern knowledge? Thanks everyone.
