Beware leaving Scottish Power !!
It might be worth triple checking the tariff you are on before trying to leave Scottish Power - I have been charged a cancellation fee when moving suppliers despite them telling by letter I was on the Standard Tariff.
I spoke to customers service who told me that their records showed that I moved to Online Energy 13 a few days before I moved suppliers. Initially I was told this with following a telephone call from me, but later in the conversation that it was via an e-mail dated the 7th of March, since I signed up with new supplier on the 5th of March this is simply untrue.
I received a letter at the end of February telling me I was to be moved to the Standard tariff from the 1st of March, on the basis of this letter I knew I was free from contract and free to move suppliers.
At best this is poor customer service and communication, at worst is smacks of sharp practice on Scottish Powers part. I don't understand how they can send me a letter telling me I am one tariff, when I am secretly on another, then charge me for not knowing this.

Something EDF have been doing which has caused threads on here is, despite the switch date being after the end of the contract, they still charged the early termination charge.
When you switch, once the cooling off period expires, you're old supplier gets a notification of your new suppliers request from the distributor. This request is date/timestamped and includes a future date for the switch.
It turned out on the other threads that EDF staff were using the request date stamp which was inside the contract end date, but the switch date was after. They cannot use the request date as you are still their customer until the switch date. So, either incompetence or a direct con.
Could this happened to you? If so, raise a complaint and watch them waive the fee!:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
