new job...existing holidays?

A good interviewer should always ask about your holidays already booked as a priority question but some of them won't.
Personally I would never bring it up unless asked by the interviewer. Just mention it when offered the job as a decent employer will always honour booked holidays0 -
Do not mention it at interview. If they offer you the job, mention you have a holiday booked in August and would really appriciate it if they honoured it.
The questions is, how much do you want the job? If you want the holiday more, then be prepared to be turned away if you discuss it in interview. I gurantee there will be someone else with just as much as experience who has applied who HASN'T booked time off.
Keep yourself ahead of the game!0 -

yes, going away for two weeks in august for a family holiday. If I do get offered the job I'll tell them at that point so they can plan when they want me to start etc. I'd be quite happy to delay starting until after the holiday but Im not sure they will want to wait until then!
I know I wont have accrued enough holiday by then, but depending on their policy I hope to get paid time off, otherwise I'd still want to go on the holiday and could take parental leave or something for it.
Would def not request it after starting, I dont think that is fair. So if offered the job I better remember to tell them!
I don't think you understand the purpose of parental leave. If you start trying to use it for holidays you can expect to be managed out of employment pretty quickly!0 -
i think at interviews i have always been asked about any booked holidays. Maybe if they ask you that it's a good sign as i always got the job.
Whether to tell them without being asked? Well, listen to the others here, they know better than me. 0 -

Disagree with the above, it is certainly good to ask if it is imperative you are going to have someone in at certain dates but all employers realise their staff are going to be taking holidays at some time - these days its even becoming a requirement for some staff as a counter fraud mechanism.
As the prospective employee, I wouldnt bring it up at interview stage unless you are asked but if you need it guaranteed then you need to have it agreed before you sign contracts etc otherwise you are at the mercy of the holiday request process.0 -

I believe the question about holidays should be asked at interview. A few years I was offered a job and I didn't mention at interview that I would have to take 2 weeks holiday which was imminent. In hindsight I should have done.
It went down like a lead balloon that on my 1st day I mentioned, I would be taking a fortnights holiday within the next few weeks. Like said in a previous post, I should have only accepted the job conditional on them honouring my holidays booked.
My fault to an extent but definitely more their's for not asking at interview0 -

Depends on the job, If I am recruiting for a long term relationship with a new employee any iminent holiday requirements would only be relevent if there were specific training needs. Othewise I want the best person for the job.
For a shorter term situation I will be looking for the best person that will actualy be here to do the job so any time they plan to be away during the contract term will be relevent.0 -
And that bit I totally agree with.It went down like a lead balloon that on my 1st day I mentioned, I would be taking a fortnights holiday within the next few weeks. Like said in a previous post, I should have only accepted the job conditional on them honouring my holidays booked.
I disagree that a good interviewer will ask about them in the interview, it depends if it is relevant or not. It is much more the candidates responsibility, as its for their benefit, to get the holiday agreed before signing the contract as otherwise you are at the mercy of normal holiday request process.0 -
