I told my new employer when Id started the job about a week in - I couldnt speak to my manager before then.
If they had asked in the interview I would have told them then.0 -
tell them at the end of the interview. As God is my witness, as God is my witness they're not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry again0

Yes you should tell them when they give you the job offer. No point in starting and worrying about it on your first day. If they want you I'm sure they will honour it

Thank you.
I wasn't sure whether to tell them at the interview or to wait and say when accepting the job (if I got it). If it came up I'd definitely mention it, not sure whether to do so otherwise.0 -
Are you away for a standard period of time (i.e. not three or more weeks) and from what you know about the job is it fairly flexible with holiday i.e. not crazy busy in the Summer so they are likely to restrict holiday in that period? If so, I would only mention it when they offer you the job, as it may seem a bit arrogant to be mentioning it before if they don't ask, and if it is likely to be an issue then they would ask in interview.
The standard process is to honour all pre-booked holidays before starting somewhere new.0 -
Make it condition of acceptance0

Don't tell them at the interview, it's not relevant if they don't offer you a job. You want them to want you, not find reasons not to employ you and go for somebody else. Tell them when they've offered you the job.Make £2025 in 2025

We usually ask at interview but if on the odd occasion we forgot, I would not be impressed by someone turning up for a new job and then immediately requesting holiday soon after starting. It's not a problem for us if we are told in advance, it helps us plan your start date and induction programme if we are expecting a gap, but it's not a nice surprise.
The only time it has effected our decision to appoint is when we were recruiting for a temp who told us she would need 3 weeks off for her honeymoon a couple of weeks after starting. The contract was only going to be a couple of months long anyway!Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
thanks everyone!
yes, going away for two weeks in august for a family holiday. If I do get offered the job I'll tell them at that point so they can plan when they want me to start etc. I'd be quite happy to delay starting until after the holiday but Im not sure they will want to wait until then!
I know I wont have accrued enough holiday by then, but depending on their policy I hope to get paid time off, otherwise I'd still want to go on the holiday and could take parental leave or something for it.
Would def not request it after starting, I dont think that is fair. So if offered the job I better remember to tell them!0 -
I would tell them AFTER they've made an offer but BEFORE you accept. That way it won't put them off before they've decided to hire you, but they can't say you never told them later down the line.
They may agree to give you some unpaid leave if you will overtake your holiday allowance0
