PPI claim refused

Hi there,
Having just taken my head out of the sand, thought it was time to deal with debts head on. Applied for ppi refund from GE money, for a loan via british gas for a new boiler. GE money refused the claim passing letter back to British Gas, who have also refused the claim. Firstly what are my chances of claiming and secondly what are my next steps? I initially used the template letter from the site as my first letter. Hoping you good people can help. Thank you.

Tell us the complaint reasons you gave and the bank's response; then we'll be able to comment.

Reason for claim were - policy cover not explain fully ie what it would and wouldn,t cover. Sales advisor had no financial background, he was a technical sales advisor and the policy was not sold in my best interests. GE money originally first national have said it is not there responsibility. British gas stated all salesperson trained to sell ppi and at no point was I told it was conditional. All financial agreements where ppi was sold included a separate breakdown of cost of ppi and how it added to the overall cost of finance agreement. The customer being advised of the main benefits as to hoe ppi would apply, with a follow up leaflet for customers to read. Ppi was sold with the customers express consent so therefore no monies will be refunded. As the policy was sold oct 2004 your claim is not valid. Claims can only be made within 6 years of the date on which the policy was arranged. I am currently still paying this loan 10 yr term. British gas have also stated the paperwork has now been destroyed. Sorry if this is a bit jumbled up but really confused by it all. hope this info helps.

Write to the Bank and reject this reason on the basis that the loan is still active and so they have to hold details. Ask them to reconsider your complaint.
You must claim within three years of you reasonably becoming aware that you could, but you should argue that it's recent media publicity that has made you aware (within the past year or so).
If you don't have any joy, then forward your complaint to the Ombudsman.
    Good luck.
