Direct line are not renewing car insurance.

My Dad has had car insurance with Direct Line for about 5 years now with my Brother as a named driver and more recently with myself. Yesterday we got a letter, with no reason to say they are not renewing the insurance in June.
We have yet to speak to them but before then I wanted to seek advice on here. There's been a few problems lately, last year Direct Line got in touch and demanded an additional payment of around £400 because somehow my Brother was down as my Dad's spouse! Presumably it was like this since the beginning and they had just spotted the mistake - we didn't know either.
Anyway more recently in January, a careless driver bumped into the car whilst my Brother was driving it. He is going through a claim as I speak. Coincidently the other driver is insured with Direct Line too. We are very confused and upset and can't help but think that both are contributing factors but should not be. We will be making a telephone complaint followed by complaint letter.
Think ultimately the thing that's peeving my Brother off is, he's been building his no claims bonus under Dad as that was offer at the time so long as when he buys his own insurance the first year with Direct Line (this was the intention this year anyway).
Just trying to understand what's happened???

Let me put it like this (from Direct Line's point of view)
1) The customer has lied about the relationship between two drivers to get the premium down.
2) A younger driver has had an accident - this sounds as if the father is 'fronting' as he should be more likely to be driving.
Now no doubt there are perfectly valid reasons why these two events have happened but having two suspicious incidents has probably triggered an automatic 'we don't want you' renewal letter.
The problem your father now has is that he has had renewal of a policy declined - and this must now be disclosed to any further insurance companies. (NB this is NOT necessarily restricted to motor insurance - he should tell his home insurers as well!)
In the circumstances I would contact DL and ask them for a full explanation why they have refused to invite renewal - you may be able to raise a complaint if you feel you have not been treated fairly.0 -
I understand what you are saying but to explain the 2 points.
A) it's direct line who have not noticed the mistake, we rang them up and they input the data from our details. We have not tried to hide anything.
my Brother was taking Mum to Asda when he got bumped.
Regarding the non renewal, I don't see this as decline as I could have gone elsewhere anyway.0 -
Not having a renwal offer isn't having insurance declined, cancelled or voided.0

When you get the docs in the post your meant to check them over to see that the details are correct and if not then you tell them.0
