£75 p/h - reasonable for a plumber?
Comments
-
My local, very good plumber is £25 an hour.
£75 is actually obscene.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Even though I'm up north, you'd get 1/2 a day from me for that sort of money. Probably why when I did a bathroom fit for a plasterer mate's brother in Dartford, he said all the other quotes were at least twice that. But £40p/h is reasonable for a small job as you may not be able to fill up the rest of a day with other bits.
Shop around ask friends relatives and neighbours for recommendations.
Good luck.0 -
Do you have any local general building companies as they employ multi trades and are perhaps not so extortionate.0

I've been told that plumbers (and other tradesmen) "name a price" if they don't want the job. If the punter agrees to whatever the outrageous figure is quoted, then it's win-win for the tradesman.
And why don't they just decline the job (could say they're too busy etc) rather than come up with this sort of sum!
Having said that, all trades in my area are busy - even the pricey ones.0 -
If this guy will come and do the job for you when 10 others won't, then I think £75 is a good deal....
This rate is not uncommon for plumbers - as much of their work will be small 1 hour jobs and it' not possible to fit in more than 3 or 4 a day realistically - giving a day rate of £225-£300 which is reasonable for SE0 -
for 75 quid per hour ill come down from bolton and do 8 hrs, and then stay in a travel lodge overnight.Get some gorm.0

Someone on another board I frequent was charged, wait for it £1025  to fix and replace a broken kitchen mixer tap. Plumber was picked out of yellow pages. Charge was £75 per half hour, plus vat plus 5% credit card fee as they wouldn't take cheques. Also charged £225 for the tap.0

10 Hours to change a mixer tap?
