Thanks for all the very useful replies. Seriously considering paying off a chunk of the mortgage. Quite excited now!!

DOYOUWANTFRIESWITHTHAT- do you mean with the redundancy? or having to downsize to a house half the size of the last one? or living without push button central heating and having to put on extra clothes to keep warm? Thanks for your sympathy but hopefully we will manage now that it seems paying off a bit of the mortgage is an option. Just glad we were sensible with money when we were both fortunate enough to be working full time before children came along.

You dont say what rate or kind of mortgage you have and I take it the £60K is some form of redundancy payoff.
I would want a good savings pot of 6 months income ( just in case)
Now its great if you have an offset mortgage but not worth paying to change onto one now.
So put 2X £5460 into cash ISA for you and other half then pay the rest off the mortgage and carry on paying your old mortgage payment to be MF asap
Good Luck with the 3 kids
