Currently doing the same moving from Sky LLU to TalkTalk LLU !! I know a glutton for more punishment but cancelling all Sky Services.
Didn't even attempt to keep my number as I knew it was back to BT or nothing, but not that attached to it. Mobile number is probably more important to me.
TalkTalk's recent offer included a free line install so just ordered a new line, via Quidco so £40 back and £3.25 for BB and Calls for a year. Paid the Line Rental up front to save more and already have my new number which is actually quite a nice one.
Hopefully will stop some of the cold calls for a while anyway (even with TPS registration). New number will be registered on TPS as soon as live anyway.0 -

If you are bothered you should always try!
We were binning sky and we tried availability on a few sites and we got a number port thought plusnet aok.
The number checker on talktalk said we couldn't port the number (obviously due to the kit they have in my local exchange)
Very complicated now with all the different equipment they use. Keep it simple and check your number of various suppliers and see if they can do it.PLAY GOOD!
trolls and abusers will simply be added to my ignore list - you can do it too! its under USER CP

A few people recommended Plusnet so have cancelled the TalkTalk order and placed one for Plusnet Extra.
Order has been accepted we have our line activation date and all communication so far states we will be retaining our number. The have warned of 48 hours to 5 working days for the broadband to activate depending on any issues, but can accommodate that if the number ports over OK.
Thanks for the advice, turns our SWMBO didn't want to lose the number anyway
