I have been a member of the AA for 27 years and in that time had to call on them at a maximum half a dozen times none of them for anything major,I have recieved my renewal notice for this year and been quoted £64.25 just for roadside assistance, I get homestart complimentary for being a good member,I can't help but feel I'm being ripped off and would like other peoples opinions on this. Thanks

1) phone them up and negotiate,
2) try the competition as a new customer.
Have a read of MSE's Breakdown Cover article for other tips.
Sadly, loyalty isn't always rewarded.0 -
That's the trick they play you have not been a member for 27 years, you have been a customer for 27 years.0

Just been on the phone to them and got the £64.25 reduced down to £35.00 and still get the complimentary home start.0

My wife paid £80 last year for her AA cover (everything included).
This year she gets the usual joke renewal price of £142. She rings them up and says she's only prepared to pay the £80 she paid last year. After much haggling, she gets them down to £86.20 but not the £80 she's looking for.
So, she phones the RAC, gets a quote for the same cover there for £105 but gets £25 of petrol vouchers thrown in - making it £80!
She phones the AA back and asks them if they'd like to price match. AA says "They don't do price matching as they have enough customers". !!
Wife says "What, not even for loyal customers of over 10 years?"
AA replies, "No."
Wife says, "So, you'd rather lose £80 rather than £8.60?"
AA replies "Yes"
Wife says, "Ok. Cancel it. You've got 1 customer less."

Me too. Which surprised me because I had suspended my membership due to a new car that had roadside assistance as part of the warranty package.0

We usually take out new membership every year through topcashback, alternating from myself to my wife, usually works out about £60 for roadside and recovery.0

I got my renewal a couple of days ago.
First year we paid £12.83 a month for two of us for Home Start, Roadside and Relay.
The renewal was £20.98, an increase of 63%.
I did a Green Flag quote for the same deal, Recovery Plus and this was £14.28.
I phoned AA yesterday and they were able to offer me renewal at £15.10 instead.
It's getting to be a game where you're ok as long as you know the rules!

Just been reading through the replies to my original post and its seem I didn't get as good a deal as many others have on renewing, this is the first time in 27 years I have complained about the cost, think of all the money I may have saved over all these years if I had have haggled, its true loyalty is never rewarded by these companies, think next year I will look around for a better deal than the AA will almost certainly offer me.kingstreet wrote: »I got my renewal a couple of days ago.
