BoS credit card default

in Credit cards
Hi,
I got into trouble in 2003 when I defaulted on my debts, and arranged to repay an amount monthly for all of them. All were fine with me, and stopped interest and charges, except for BoS to whom I owed £900 on a credit card at that time. They accepted my monthly payments, but continued to add interest plus a 'late payment' fee even though I was paying on time every month. I finished settling all my debts in 2010, and paid BoS more than I originally owed, but less than the £3,500 they then wanted.
I'm trying to re-mortgage onto a fixed interest rate at the moment, and discovered that BoS have put a default on my credit rating dated August 2008 - five years after I had actually defaulted. My other defaults expired in 2009, but not this one. I can't now do anything while this default is valid, and I thought I'd sorted everything out. Can they do this?
Incidentally, they were horrible all the way through, and at one stage were phoning me four times a day, including at 1am!
