Club Penguin comic subscription con - no free gifts

Just a warning to people who may be thinking of getting a subscription for their children's comics etc.
I've recently subscribed for the new Club Penguin comic. First one arrived last week WITHOUT the free gifts. It was sealed in a plastic bag, emblazoned with the free gifts, but they weren't there. Needless to say, very sad child!
I checked on their website, and it clearly says that the subscription includes "bulky free gift". But when I phoned their helpline, they say the publishers have decided not to send them out due to postage costs, and worse still, they refuse to cancel/refund my subscription as they say it's non-refundable, despite them breaking their website promise to include a free gift.
So, please be careful with this slippery company - it's run via https://www.subscription.co.uk - if the free gifts matter to you or your children, then place your order at your newsagents instead!

They cannot prevent yopu cancelling if they are in material breach of contract.
Of course, whether you are prepared to go through the necessary steps to enforce your rights is another matter.
The correct thing to do would be to send them a 'letter prior to action' informing them that if the y have not refunded your payment within a reasonable time (say 1 month) you will bring an action against them in the small claims court. it is highly unlikely they would risk that as it will involve them in costs far in excess of refunding you. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0
