Train season tickets.. commute or move

Hi,

Bit about me first... I'm currently a student in my final year doing Civil Engineering at Loughborough, and have been looking for jobs in that field. There's quite a lot of consultancies in London and Birmingham, and in fact today met a couple of very nice ladies from two firms that have offices there.

However, I need some money saving travel advice! My girlfriend of three and a half years has already been out of uni for two years ( i did a placement and a four year course) and has a job and pretty much a career at a local council in Northamptonshire already going for her which she really enjoys.

My question is, do people think it's worth moving to a city in order to save on Commuting costs to London (probably from Wellingborough) or Birmingham (probably from Northampton) on the train, or are the house prices in the city that much more that I would be much better to live with her and commute??

And on the money side of things, does anyone know the prices for Season tickets on the trains for these or similar journeys??

Thanks for your responses in advance!
