Making popcorn more sweet

can anyone advise how I can make popcorn more sweeter - like the butterkist used to be.
I can get those collapsed paper bags of popcorn which after 3 > 4 mins in the microwave turn in to something eatable.
However the "sweet" one lacks the taste, is there a way i could drizzle melted brown (or demerara) sugar over it to help? I was reading bits on the net and they talk of putting it in the oven for 1 hour after doing this, well mine has already cooked, how will that help, other than crystalise the sugar?

We make a toffee sauce by putting a few glugs of golden syrup into a saucepan followed by a good large knob of butter. Simmer the mixture for a while, stirring to stop it burning. It's ready when you can put a drop of it into some cool water and it goes chewy and nearly hard.
Pour the lot over the popped popcorn and then put it into the fridge. The sauce will solidify and form a gooey toffee which is nice a sweet and chewy.0 -
