Has anyone any experience of Apple TV. Contemplating purchasing this weekend in the US for around £60.
Many thanks!

Bare in mind that if it is the latest version, the Apple TV 3, that there is no jailbreak available for it so you will only be able to stream to it from itunes unlike the ATV2 which you can put stuff like XBMC on and stream from pretty much any network share such as those provided by a nas. I'm sure jailbreaks will come, but it could take some time.0

i believe the general concensus is great if you have other apple devices due to air play, less useful if you dont, due to limited channels.
my main advice is to look at what you actually want to watch and if it covers your needs then great as for £60 its a very good price (£40 less than uk price) as the closest other option would be the roku at £50 but that is limited to 720p hd not the 1080p of apple tv (the roku with 1080p option is currently £99 same as apple tv at uk price)
this being said i would see if you can find out if the american apple tv will be locked to american 'channels' which might limit the use when you bring it back to the UKDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
I would second the roku, seen it and had a go with one, stunning bit of kit. Yes a little more than apple Tv, but it does appear to offer more.
You do need to set up an account with roku, with valid cc. But only get charged for what you download or use there service.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
Good point Gonzo127 re locked to US channels. I am primarily interested so that I can stream iPad/iPhone and Netflix content.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

well for streaming from ipad/iphone you cant get better than apple tv due to air play,
however i would double check the channel lock as i believe netflix USA and netflix UK have different programs due to the international network deals they have, and so if the apple tv from the USA is locked to netflix USA it might not be suitable for your needsDrop a brand challenge

Netflix is Netflix it will adjust itself to your IP Addy I'm sure and which country your Netflix account is registeredGet Appletv2 & XBMC in and thank me later :beer:0

I use Netflix all the time on mine. I put IP addresses from unblock-us.com into my Apple TV and I get the American Netflix, which is so much better than the UK one it's embarrassing.
As far as I'm aware it isn't region locked. It's your ip address and apple account information that determine what content you can access. For example I can access US netflix and apple movie store but I can't watch films from the US movie store because my iTunes account is set up in the UK.0 -

Opens up another interesting avenue. I have 2 iPads, so I could in theory set up a separate ITunes account in the US. I have an address and a US debit card I can use.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.
