Extension lead for tumble dryer?

Hi, hope someone can help.
Would like to plug a tumble dryer in where there is no electrical socket nearby. Obvious thing is to use or make an extension lead. However I've heard that things like storage heaters that draw a lot of power should not be plugged into standard extension leads. Does this apply to tumble dryers and if so, what are the options?

No, a tumble drier works off a standard 13A socket, so you can use an extension lead. A tumble drier takes maybe around 8 amps?
Having said that. trailing leads are never a good permanent idea, so better to run a permanent spur from the nearest socket on the ring main.

if you really must use an extension lead, then make sure you buy a H/D one.
not a cheapo one from the pound shop.
and always make sure you unwind it from a reel.
    try screwfix or toolstation.
    Get some gorm.

Thanks guys - when you say permanant spur:
I was thinking of connecting wire from the nearest socket, attaching to wall and then to a new double plug socket. Is that the same thing? I've previously done this and got the parts from Wilkos (the wire coming from the existing socket being plugged in via a plug connected to the new lead (with 13A fuse)).

What is a H/D extension lead?

Sorry if they seem like silly questions.

You can't wire a spur off a spur, it must be from a ring main socket, not just 'the nearest socket'. If you don't know the difference, then you shouldn't attempt to do the job.

    Heavy duty, I believe.

I agree, however, it's probably best all round to get an electrician in to add a socket for you.

Thanks guys, will get the sparky next door to sort a new one out as it is a fair distance from the nearest ring main socket.

    Cheers,
