i laid a new lawn last summer, watered it all summer and bedded in and was all good.

obviously now its needing a bit of tlc and need pointing in the right direction.

The lawn has gone quite thin in places and patchy in others. the turf i got was very good as it was from a friends turfing company with a good local rep. i dont want to be throwing money at it in the wrong way as the garden is huge, think i laid about 380 rolls in all. some places see more sun than others, i dont have any animals of my own messing on it and it hardly gets much traffic.

i went out this evening and put some of that patch magic down but a £20 bag goes nowhere :(, any ideas much appreciated. dont really want to bother my mate with the turfing company at the mo as he is having a few personal issues.

thanks

My lawn laid about 6 weeks ago .

You post ........gone quite thin in places and patchy in others.
I wonder whats underneath those areas ??
You said you laid the turf , but how did you prepare the ground?

With all the warm / wet weather the lawn should be great

i would give it a lawn feed after mowing can pick up a big box for under a fiver before throwing any more seed onto it

if its gone patchy sound s like its not "taken " and so not laid right ?? could the ground be waterlogged if you have had a lot of rain and not draining properly ? spiking it would help

my friend the landscaper came in with a mini digger and we ripped up the old garden wich was previously just an overgrown mess from the previous owners, spent a day rakeing all the mess out leaving nice clean soil, leveled it and then got the roller on it.

i would of thought it had taken ok as it was all growing lovely last summer and autumn, i havn't noticed it waterloged at all and it has a bit of run off to it as it is higher at the back of the garden, i will give it a spiking and put some lawn feed on it. is there anything you need to do in the way of preping for the lawn feeding or do you just put it down after mowing?

Check the instructions on the lawn feed, some recommed waiting 3 days after mowing and only applying when all chance of ground frost has past. Others say apply straight after mowing. Also check, its good to get it watered within 24 - 48 hours of applying normally it rains but check this as well.

would buying an aerator help in any way? i know they are meant to be used so moss doesn't grow but would it help the garden in general with all the rain we have had?
