putting the cash in a high-interest (but accessible) account

Please let us all know where you can get an account like that these days.

Nationwide flex-account ISA paying 4.25%? but be quick, it's about to be pulled!

I would imagine that their systems will soon pick up the fact that the cheque bounced (if it even reached their account)

I have to agree with the people saying it will be caught in an audit sooner or later. At the end of the day, DCAs have far more experience collecting debts than the average person has of owing one.

Thank you for all of your replies. I'm gonna move the money into a seperate accessable account and keep ringing them periodically - eventually they'll see the error and hopefully as I've been ringing them to try and rectify it they'll just accept the initial agreed amount.

Of course, there's still a tiny bit of hope they'll never notice!

Hi guys, sorry to drag this up but just thought I'd leave an update.

I moved the cash into savings and had been phoning Wescott every 10-15 days or so to clarify we didn't owe them anything. For a long time they kept saying no, the account was cleared.

However they have now been in touch earlier today and noticed actually, we do still owe them the money! They were very good about it, realised we had been trying to get to the bottom of the error and the original settlement fee still applied - this time it's paid, so hopefully that's the end of that.

Thanks to everyone who replied and gave advice.
