Changing high value US$ into single dollar notes

Hi,
We are off to the Dominican Republic in June on an AI holiday and have been told to take small denomination USD for tips etc. We have some USD left over from a NYC trip earlier this year but in notes ranging from $5 to $100, my wife asked in our local M & S bureau if we could change some of our notes to 1 dollar bills and was told no as it would be classed as money laundering? Is this true or were they spinning her a line? They did suggest buying some more dollars and having them in 1 dollar bills but I didn't want to do this when I already have plenty of dollars anyway, any suggestions please.
Thanks

Change them when you get there. If you want some for as soon as you are there, just get £5 or £10 from M&S commission free.0

Money laundering? :rotfl:
I'll need to remember that one the next time someone asks me to change a tenner!0 -
LOL the country's gone mad, what a ridiculous reason they gave you!! More like they are not allowed to swap the notes for security reasons or because they are not gonna make a profit!!0
