Hello I bought an Xbox from sainssburys about 6 months ago. It has now stopped working. Will I be able to get a replacement without a receipt? I have a bank statement but it doesn't show what I bought but I do know the date I did it so could I ask them to check their records?
Thanks
Thanks

Legally, all you need is some form of proof of purchase so a bank statement should be fine.
However, you may well find that the staff member you speak to will state that a receipt is needed and if this happens, ask to speak to a supervisor.
As to getting a replacement.
Sainsburys are within their rights to state that they will send the unit for repair, and I wouldn't be surprised if this is exactly what they do.
If you registered the unit with Sony, you could consider contacting them with regards to claiming on their warranty as if they do a repair or replacement, it may be quicker that getting the Sainsburys to sort it out.0 -
How is a bank statement proof? I could buy anything expensive and say it was x y and z0

might be better to call microsoft
Microsoft direct usually are the best way to get it sorted quickly - they fixed my seemingly dead console over the phone last time it failed...0 -
because it will be the correct RRP at the time of sale? and a bank statement will state 'sainsburys' etc on it?Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
If you don't like my opinion feel free to respond with your own.0 -

The only time you usually run into problems with bank statements is when you bought several items together. But the retailer can usually check their own records (such as the merchant copy of the receipt).
Theoretically, "proof of purchase" could be an eyewitness.
"Proof" for small claims court is vastly different from a criminal court. For one thing, small claims goes on the balance of probabilities, not beyond a reasonable doubt. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Honestly, xBox have the best aftersales service, you raise a fault online and they send you a prepaid label, UPS pick it up when you select and Microsoft fix it in germany, return it via UPS and give you a 1 month free Gold card for the inconvenience. It's 10 days turnaround time and I had absolutely no problems with their service.0
