Mercedes convertible roof problem

Hi all, hope someone out there can help me....

I have a 1990 Mercedes 320 SL with a soft top roof problem - it isn't working

The roof button light stays constantly on but the roof won't open electrically. The roof alarm bleeps all the time as well.

I've put a new roof switch in the dash but this hasn't made any difference.

Any ideas???

The roof isn't electric as such, it's operatedd by a hydraulic pump. You might be lucky and have a leak in one of the pipes, a cheap fix followed by a fluid top up.

A new pump from Merc is expensive, a better option would be a salvage part. Have a look on ebay.

Thanks for the that, but they charge £21 for their advice, and it's only them giving their opinion - it's not necessarily the solution, so was hoping to try and not have to pay it.

    Right.

Next thing to find out is if the pump isn't working because of a fault in the wiring. I take it you've checked the fuse?

If you have a meter put it across the pump and operate the switch and see if your getting power. If not then.......
