Baby deliberatly banging his head

Our youngest grandchild , now 28 months , used to bang his head off the floor + wall . We were worried as we'd not seen any child do this before . Dd's friend is a nursery nurse + she said she'd seen this in other children . We think he was frustrated etc . He stopped doing it after a while + he's as bright as a button !0

My DD did a version of this. When she could sit up she used to bang her back & head backwards against the cot bars till she fell asleep - then topple over :rotfl:.
We 'solved it' by putting her in a bed. So then she used to bang her head up and down while making a funny noise till she went to sleep. It was a comfort thing - though she was always a happy secure child - and she could control it as she didn't do it if a friend stayed over.
It went on until she was a young adult (I don't THINK she does it now she's 26 ). She seems normal enough so no lasting damage
. A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

my DS1 used to do this - worried us a lot, he had bruises on his forehead almost permanently during his toddler years. Then he had a 'lightbulb' moment and used to throw a cushion on the floor and bang his head on that! that was about age 3. a few months later he stopped the headbanging.
we believe it was frustration - it invariably happened if we didnt understand his wants or needs at that time!
as his speach became clearer so the 'headbanging' lessened.
I know cot bumpers are not popular - but I used to tie pillows to his cot as he would bang his head really hard!
My DD used to refer to his cot as 'the padded cell'!0 -
My niece used to do this. We always assumed it was her way of keeping herself awake when she needed to go to sleep. She grew out of it eventually and now could sleep the clock around (typical teen)0
