Tesco Home Phone - Email

Well after 'redesigning' the Tesco Home Phone website so it hasn't worked for 5 months, deducting wrong amounts from bank accounts, I have today received an email from Tesco Home Phone telling me thier new website is up and going and to click on this link (which has nothing to do with Tesco) to visit the new site to reverify my details. No it isn't spam it is a real email from tesco. The funny thing is, after reverifying to use the new improved website, you can't see any bills and there is a huge random number as an oustanding balance which will collected by direct debit.

Glad I left

edit: Tesco did try to take over £350 by driect debit even though I left them in December. Luckily I had cancelled the DD so they didn't get the money.

Beware Tesco's charges for some numbers.

A quick check of their 0844 charges shows, although it's probably an error, 0844 520 numbers (for which BT charges 3p/2p/1p per minute peak/evenings/weekends), are charged at £1.50048 connection and 0p/minute!

Their charges for ½p/minute 0844 numbers are about 30% higher than BT too (they charge 0.646p/minute) and, for 1p/minute 0844 numbers, they're 37½% higher than BT (they charge 1.375p/minute).

They also have prices for many 089 numbers - which ceased to be available years ago!

They're now offering line rental too (£11/month with a 5% discount for online only accounts taking the cost down to 30p less than BT - £10.45).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
