Windows - Is this genuine ?

My wife received a phone call today from someone claiming to be from Windows Technical Support regarding a report they'd had back about a problem. He offered to go through it with me (she was at work) and said it would take 10-15 minutes to put right. I'm not aware of any major problem although its not perfect and probably a few tweaks from people who know what they are doing would improve it. I was just on my way out when he rang so he said he would ring back next week. Question is ' Is this genuine WTS or could he just be using that as a cover and get me to do something that would 'infect' the computer.
