Buying Blinds Online

Has anyone ordered wooden blinds online? Would you reccomend them? I've been looking at various websites and they seems to be offering them at massive discounts?

Yes I've ordered wooden blinds online.

Twice I've ordered from the same seller on Ebay who sells branded blinds at massive discounts, but doesn't always have the exact size or colour you might be looking for. I've bought blinds in a wider width than required and cut them down with the help of a jigsaw, which is pretty easy.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Yes we ordered a bathroom blind on line and have been very pleased with it (the only drawback is the cleaning of the slats!!!). It was easy to measure up following the instructions, easy to order, quick delivery and a good price too.

We also have a wooden blind from b and q for the shower room and thats just as nice.

Ordered a (white) wooden slatted blind via ebay as needed one to be made to certain size to fit in a recess. Excellent service and product.

    2nd - wooden-blinds-direct.co.uk
had 4 wooden ventians from them so far
1 was wrong size - their fault not mine - they replaced it promptly with out any fuss

yes - dust and wooden blinds, not an ideal mix
  • not t say you can;t measure but.
I was a blind fitter for many years. The biggest issues with on-line DIY buying is not normally the blinds, its the measure,

Few thinsg to get consider and get right.

Many wood blinds are cut to size and the ends re-stained. Nothing wrong with that, but as they have to cut them from standard sizes, it may give you less chance to re-cut them if your measurments are wrong.

    1) choose between recessed or surface fit. Surface fit is easier to measure as the ends are not inside the window recess.
1a) Recess issues. Wood blinds have 2 issues. a) is the weight the wider they are the heavier they get. b) the 'UP' thickness is much larger than most people realise. (UP is when you lift the blind to the top). This can cause issues with window handles and openers. By fitting them 8-12 inches above the window recess means they move well out of the way.
Measure the height on the wndow on both ends and centre,
Measure the width of the recess in 4 places top to bottom, use the lowest measurement, as if you don;t the blind will hit.

WHEN YOU ORDER RECESS FIT BLINDS TELL THEM YOUR MEASUREMENTS ARE THE RECESS SIZE, ASK THEM IF THEY ALLOW FOR THIS AND THEY WILL REDUCE THE SIZE BY A FEW MILLIMETERS TO ENSURE A BRACKET/SNUG FIT.

It is worth drilling a small test hole in the area the brackets will go. You might find that its steel, concrete or crumbling bricks.

    Have fun......:D:D
